The purpose of this letter is to introduce our team and explain the special role of teachers’ in implementing Crystal Island. This game-based learning environment is being developed and tested at North Carolina State University.
To introduce Crystal Island to the classroom, participating teachers will be asked to perform a number of specialized duties for which they will be compensated. These responsibilities include:

Teacher Institute Training
Attend the Teacher Institute on 11/5/11 and prepare to implement Crystal Island during the spring semester.
At least one teacher from a participating school must attend.
Compensation is $250 for the day, with an agreement to participate in the classroom implementation.
Classroom Intervention
Set up students to have access to Crystal Island using IDs.
Coordinate administration of pre and post surveys.
Complete weekly online surveys.
Utilize the teacher dashboard to track student progress.
Potentially participate in an interview about the Crystal Island experience.
Assist in organizing student focus groups afterschool.
All participating teachers will receive $600 for the listed duties upon completion of the 4-week classroom implementation.
